FLAXSEED FIBER is made from certified organic, cold-milled whole flaxseeds, a natural source of dietary fiber and other nutrients.
Intended for use primarily as a fiber supplement, Flaxseed Fiber also contains dietary protein, dietary lignans and the important omega-3 essential fatty acid alpha-linolenic acid (ALA). ALA has been researched to help support healthy cardiovascular function, healthy cell membrane structure and healthy inflammation response.
Flaxseed is an excellent source of both soluble and insoluble dietary, monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fatty acids, and dietary lignans. Studies suggest that lignans exhibit both antioxidant activity and phytoestrogenic effects, and flaxseed is the richest known source of these compounds, providing 800 times with the lignan content of any other plant food. Flaxseeds also contain vitamin E (mainly in the gamma-tocopherol form), B-vitamins such as niacin and folate, and numerous minerals including significant amounts of phosphorus, potassium, magnesium and calcium.
The soluble fibre in flaxseed is rich in mucilaginous compounds, shown in both human and animal research to help relieve constipation. Soluble flaxseed fibre also may help to support healthy serum cholesterol and blood lipid levels within the normal range. In fact, several bioactive compounds in flaxseeds (peptides, glycosides, alpha-linolenic acid, lignans) have been researched to benefit cardiovascular health in a number of ways, such as helping to optimize the inflammation response and providing free radical defence.
Flaxseed Fiber may be combined with any liquid—from plain water or apple juice to smoothies and protein shakes. It also may be sprinkled on foods such as oatmeal and yoghurt. Flaxseed Fiber is verified gluten-free by independent laboratory testing.
